PREPARING FOR HARVEST
Editor's Note

God has been positioning us for success.  For some time now we have been tilling the soil holding fast to the promise that God will do something powerful in New York.  We are certain that after much preparation we are now at the gates of a great harvest.  In this issue of the CT New Yorker, we want to share this process of "stepping it up" so that you too can stand at the brink of a great revival and experience it with us.  Hang with us and you too will be part of an unprecedented harvest of souls and economic blessing upon God's people in the east coast.  We believe it.  Do you?

Miracles by the Wayside

Even as we prepare for the harvest, God continues to show signs and wonders along the way.

Sis. Paz Medina was crippled for one week by severe pain and stiffness along her spinal chord.  She was unable to bend at all and could not walk without assistance.  She came up to the altar one Sunday and God healed her.  She began dancing in the spirit free of pain.

Bro. Ulises Estrada received 9 stitches on his arm after a work injury.  The medical staff that cared for him asked, "How is it that you cut such a big part of your arm without damaging even one of your veins?"  Bro. Ulises testified that it was God that kept his veins intact.   When he came to church the night of the accident, he was under a lot of pain and could not move his arm.  We prayed for him and God healed him instantly.  He was able to lift his arm without pain.

Bro. Jesus Canales was attacked by two young men involved in witchcraft outside a store.  He testified that he began to feel numbness in his legs and a satanic presence.  But, Bro. Jesus rebuked the presence in the name of Jesus Christ and was able to move his legs freely.  When he confronted the young men, they confessed that they had cast a spell on him to immobilize his legs so that they could rob him.

A young man was in a comma for several weeks after a severe car accident.  The Freeport Home Friendship Group united in intercession for his life and salvation.  The young man woke up unexpectedly shortly thereafter and was present the following Sunday at church to give thanks to God.

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; theywill take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV)

STEPPING IT UP FOR SUCCESS

pastorOct

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and He delights in his way. God delights in the process we have to go through in order to be successful. People need to stop trying to hit quick solutions with the "lottery mentality." People today despise and discard the process, when God delights in it. God is pleased in your process and not just your destination. Do you know why? God gets glory out of the process. He is glorified not just where you end up but He's glorified in what you've learned along the way. If you are ever going to be successful, you will have to learn and accept that there are steps involved in getting there.

The mission work here in Long Island New York had steps. The first year was a honeymoon period where the pastor could do nothing wrong. The second year was a discouraging period where the pastor could do nothing right. The third year someone had to go. A conflict period set in. This month, October 2007, we celebrate the fourth year of our mission work here in New York. God has now set us up for success. It is time for a period of growth. We are already seeing the signs of this wave of blessing in route and headed for the east coast.

Jesus was clear in Luke 14 when He said that if you want to build something great you should expect opposition. He said count the "cost." Considering the "cost" is more than dollars. The price is your time, preparation, and the adversity you must overcome. Jesus, by the process of elimination, is choosing His disciples. A true disciple understands and accepts the "price" that must be paid to follow Jesus.

Now it is time to "Step It Up." The first step to success is "Planning." Success is intentional. Nothing changes by accident; you have to work a plan for the plan to work.  And this is where some Christians have a problem; we are taught to pray but not to work a plan. You need a strategic, well-thought-out plan that will help you get ready for each level of growth. Remember this, with new levels comes new devils!

Step two is "Positioning." If you study successful people, you may notice they don't just work hard in a focused way, they position themselves. Are you lined up for success? One of the things I have learned as a parent is the importance of aiming our children at something.  Psalms 127:4 says, "Children are like arrows in the hand of a mighty man." Arrows are only affective if they are aimed at something.

"Partnering" is the next step up. Good partners complete, not compete. This is best learned in a marriage. Most marriages fail because one partner tries to make the other like them. We thank God for the wonderful partners He has given us in this project to establish the east coast for the Kingdom. You, who have partnered with us, have completed our ministry here. It is our partners who have made the vision possible.

Step four is "Planting." Planting is always an act of faith. Whether you are planting a garden, trying to have to have a child, starting a business or planting a church, you have to believe that what you are planting is going to be productive.

The final step is "Patience." Always remember that your job is to plant the seed and to cultivate it but only God gives the increase. The harvest will come at harvest time and no sooner. The fruit God gives will be the fruit God chooses, especially for you.

Isaiah 55:10-11

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

ROLLING UP OUR SLEEVES

The Women's Ministry here at Christian Tabernacle has been in "work-mode" since the start of this year.  They are ready to roll up their sleeves and get their hands in the work.  If these women need to put gloves on and clean the church, they are ready to go.  If they need to put their aprons on and work in the kitchen, they will do it without thinking about it twice.  And if they need to get their knees dirty in prayer at the altar, they will pray and intercede for the church until there is a breakthrough. The "Women with Purpose" have three objectives: unity, evangelism, and spiritual growth.  The women have grown together in unity and have learned to work as a team.

During the summer, we focused on evangelism and reaching the lost.  All the women joined together in teams and began to walk the streets of Freeport and Roosevelt witnessing to people in need.  Many opened their hearts to the Word of God.  One lady in particular, asked for prayer outside of a supermarket.  Sis. Olinda Sorto began to pray for her and this lady felt the presence of God so strongly.  She invited us to her house that evening and attended service the following Sunday.  These women have grown in a boldness to preach the gospel.  They want to do greater things for the kingdom of God.

emmaOctSis. Emma Batres is the women's president.  She has only been baptized for about three years and yet she is passionate to minister and be used by God.  She will tell me, "Sis. Christine, I wish I could do more.  I feel like I don't do enough. Please tell me the areas I'm lacking in."  I'm curious to what she means by her comments because I see her doing so much already.  My goal is to continue to pour myself into these women and grow along-side them.  I want to keep them involved, excited, and motivated to use their talents and abilities in the church.  I want to keep that spirit of unity with our women.  In Jesus Name it will be done!

Home Friendship Groups

GroupOct  How does exponential growth begin anyway?  That is a question that we at CTNY have asked ourselves.  We know that theoretically, a church can grow at an accelerated rate if the correct ingredients are in place.  You start with a small group of people, disciple them, then, when the time is right, the group multiplies.  If the discipleship went according to plan, the group will then multiply again and again causing a chain reaction of exponential growth.  It will grow something like this; a small group of about 10 people wins 10 others; then the two groups win 10 each, and so forth.  The growth experienced goes from 10 to 20 to 40 to 80 to 160 to 320 to 640 to 1280 in a matter of just a few months.  The answer really is about having the right ingredients.

On our quest to find the right ingredients to make our Home Friendship Groups successful, we decided to take a plunge into preparing ourselves for that success. Benjamin Franklin once said, "A failure to prepare, is preparing to fail."  Consequently we developed what we now call CT school of Ministry in which we disciple our leaders and assistants by providing them with the tools necessary for success.  We then formed 5 Home Friendship Groups and placed them in 5 strategic locations throughout Long Island.  Now that the foundation has been laid, we are experiencing unprecedented momentum in the growth of our Home Friendship Groups.  Our group in Roosevelt, New York led by Brother Baltazar Franco who is eager to see the lost saved, went out into the streets and multiplied from 4 to 8.  This in just one week!  Imagine growing by 100% in just one week.  The group led by Minister Santos Guevara in Freeport, NY was experiencing turbulence when the Lord took over and took the group from a struggling 2 to 20 in less than 2 months.  Three weeks ago I visited our group in Central Islip, NY led by Brother Jose Orellana where we had an attendance of 8.  Last week we had an attendance of 19.  It's not all about the numbers, however.  The power of God is moving in such a powerful way that people are desperate to meet and encounter God.  Brother Salvador bikes for 20 minutes to Central Islip to receive something from God. I will tell you one thing, the presence of God was so intense last week in Central Islip that we were all speaking in tongues in less than 30 seconds.

Our purpose is simple:  grow closer to God, grow in our relationships with each other, and allow God to lead us to those that will be saved.  I believe that these are the key ingredients to exponential growth.  Jesus Christ is the one and true leader of every group.  When He is control, the extraordinary happens - people receive His Spirit, and commit their lives to Him.  It's not simply about small group meetings.  It's about a new breed of apostolics embracing our true apostolic culture.

HouseOctBlessings Pour on the Medina Family

Financial and spiritual blessings are pouring over the families of CT New York.  We interviewed Bro. Arnoldo and Sis. Paz Medina who have received a double portion recently.  They just purchased a brand new home and Bro. Arnoldo was set aside as a deacon.

What were you looking for when you came to the United States?  What was your dream?

A: I came in 1999 and my wife followed in 2000.  We always leave our countries looking for a better future, to improve financially, for something better for our children.  But, I never dreamed that I would find the church here.

You were not converted?

P: No, he was rebellious.  I was converted.  I came looking to improve financially and remain firm in the gospel.

A: My dream was to work for two years, build a house in my country and return.

Share with us about how you bought your house in New York.

A: We did build a house in El Salvador but we stayed in the US.  In April of this year God permitted us to buy a house here.  My wife was the one that dreamed of buying a home here.  I decided to share her dream.

There is power when spouses share their dreams.  What was the most miraculous part of buying your home?

P: Closing.  That day I just prayed that our payment would be lower than we had been told.

A: Yes, we expected a mortgage payment of more than $4,000 a month.  But, that day our payment came out to $1,000 less than we had agreed.  In addition, we received $8,000 back for our expenses.

Wow!  That is incredible!

A: The most miraculous part was that afterwards the contract stipulated that we had given $10,000 as down payment.  I reported that I had only given $5,000.  The bank investigated but never found out who gave the other $5,000 as down.

P: We know that it was God who gave us such a great blessing.

A: God is wonderful!  There is a reason to be closer to God.

Besides the material blessing that has come to your family, you also received a spiritual blessing.  Bro. Arnoldo was set aside as a deacon.  Sis. Paz, did you ever imagine that you would enter the ministry?

P: I know that he had the desire to serve God since he was baptized.  But before, I didn't even imagine he was going to be saved.

A: I felt the desire for God to use me in evangelism and preaching since I came to Christian Tabernacle in 2003.

What has been the best part of being in ministry?

P: That as each day goes by, we change.  God is molding us.

A: The best part for me is that my life has changed definitely.  After being an addict now I serve God.

Even though the purchase of their home was as miraculous for the Medina's as the parting of the Red Sea, the most wondrous miracle is the salvation of Bro. Arnoldo Medina.  Pastor Jason Aguilar recalls prophesying over a rugged and confused Arnoldo three years ago.  The Medina's experience reminds us that God is still on His throne and He will glorify Himself through us.

SOWOctSchool of Worship 2007

Wouldn't you wish to have access to training from wonderful, down to earth musicians and singers at an affordable price? Well, CTNY has created a program that caters to the needs of aspiring musicians and singers from local churches. The School of Worship (SOW) completed its third session on October 6th. There were five classes provided with full curriculum planning. Bass, taught by Moises Ceniceros from Chicago; Guitar, taught by the CT Worship Pastor, Eliud Gaxiola; Drums, by David Jimenez, a 15 year old taking classes at Julliard; Keys, by Pastor Jason Aguilar and Santy Jimenez; and Vocal classes by the CT Praise Team Director, Christine Aguilar. Before everyone was split up into their classes, Pastor Aguilar teaches the students about Music Theory. "What took me thirty two years to learn, you guys will learn in three days," said Pastor Jason Aguilar at the first SOW meeting. Many throughout the tri-state area took advantage of this great opportunity.  We had over twenty in attendance at each session.  The excitement and eagerness to learn was palpable throughout the building.  Bayron Mendez from Mount Kisco, NY played imaginary drumsticks in the air as he watched David Jimenez teach the class drum rolls.  In the voice class, students laid flat on their backs to practice appropriate breathing techniques.  No one was too shy or proud.  Everyone wanted to learn.  After studying fundamental tenets in music theory and practicing new techniques, the group of aspiring musicians joined in the main sanctuary to step into a higher level of worship.  God moved tremendously as teachers and students alike remembered why worship is much more than instruments and noise.
